HISTORY
In 1860, the Hermann Amos
Landmaschinenfabrik was
established in Horkheim near
Heilbronn,Germany.
In 1935 the company began
manufacturing Egrapoirs
(Destemmer-Crushers). In 1969,
Amos developed a new
experimental machine with a
separate variable speed drive for
each of its rotating elements, to
study the influence of speed
variation on the de-stemming of
wine grapes.
In 1970, Helmut Amos, who was
managing the manufacturing
division of his family's group of
companies,visited South Africa
to carry out tests in the Cape.
He returned to South Africa in the
same year with his wife Babs. The
purpose of this visit was to
investigate the feasibility of
establishing a local company for
the marketing and assembly of
machines for wineries, and agriculture in general.

Two years later, on 27 January 1972, the company "magitec"
was established to market
Destemmer-Crushers and
Implements in the Southern
Hemisphere. These machines
were assembled from parts which

were locally manufactured or
imported from the Amos Group
of Companies in Germany.
The first S6 and S3 Model
Fertilizer Spreaders were
completed.
During the next two years,
"magitec" accomplished the
following in South Africa:
1973:   the first batch of A8 HD
Egrapoirs were assembled, of
which two were shipped to
Australia.
1974:   the first Unimog-mounted
Fertilizer Spreader was developed.
1974:   the first off-loading bins
and tipping platforms of 9m in
length were manufactured at the
workshop in Paarl. These were
later followed by a massive
14 m platform, capable of handling 45 ton loads.

In 1976 the company moved to
new premises in Wellington
and launched the S4-2 and S8-2
Fertilizer Spreaders.
These machines became
exceedingly popular and more
than 2000 units have been sold
to date.

In 1978, the A25 Egrapoir was
developed for estate wineries
and smaller co-operative wine
cellars.In the following year, the
first export to Chile took place.
This market has been very
supportive ever since.
The A50, following the same
concept, replaced the A8 HD
in 1979.
The
first horizontal static drainers
were designed in 1980 and
installed at Rooiberg Winery.
Later that same year, "magitec"
added the rotating red wine
fermenting tanks to it's range of
products, and the first 16 units
were installed.
An ice crusher for chopping up
frozen fruit pulp was installed at
Appletizer.

Sadly, the Amos Group of companies in Germany was forced into liquidation in 1986, thus  ending  126 years of a proud tradition of three generations of entrepreneurship.

Meanwhile "magitec" was
growing from strength to
strength:
1989:   first Roto tanks exported
to Australia
1994:   trade sanctions against
South Africa were lifted
1995:   first Egrapoir was
exported to France and the USA
1996:    the A15 DC destemmer crusher with a capacity of 15 tons/hour was developed
1997:  the A60 DC replaced the A50 Egrapoir
1997:    the A30 DC replaced the A25 Egrapoir
1999:    the first Destemmer Crushers were delivered to Germany.

2004: We move to our new factory
in Paarl.

Helmut Amos is proud to carry on the tradition started by his great- grandfather in 1860.
